Rise of Inspectron: Automated Black-box Auditing of Cross-platform Electron Apps
Presents Inspectron, an automated black-box dynamic analysis framework that audits packaged Electron applications for deviations from the framework's recommended security configuration. The work shows that bundling a stripped-down browser engine with system-facing APIs exposes cross-platform desktop apps to threats browsers already mitigate, and an ecosystem-wide study of shipped apps reveals widespread insecure practices and problematic trends.
