DNS Prefetching and Its Privacy Implications: When Good Things Go Bad
Browsers pre-resolve every link on a result page, stamping a burst of same-age records into the resolver cache. The authors cluster cache entries by age, tokenise the domains and feed them to a suggest engine to reconstruct the search terms. Offline against BIND dumps they hit 85% true positives; remote cache snooping reached 90% accuracy at a 10-minute scan rate.
