Privoxy replaces a blocked ad with an error page offering a predictable modified URL that bypasses the block. Requesting an image at that reconstructed URL, placed after a keyword Privoxy filters, reveals whether the visitor runs Privoxy and hence probably TOR. A test script is published; the author expects it to outlive the chrome:// trick.
