Username Enumeration Vulnerabilities
pagvac surveys username enumeration from pentest practice, splitting it into bruteforcable and dumpable, and ranks four probes: login errors, password-recovery errors, signup collisions and existing-URI probing. Signup facilities are best because they always work, are silent and dodge lockout; a real PCI test enumerated 600+ accounts and cracked about 40. CAPTCHA is the only real defence.
