Microsoft IIS 0-Day Vulnerability Parsing Files (semi-colon bug)
Microsoft IIS 0Day Vulnerability in Parsing Files (semi-colon bug)
IIS 6 and earlier truncate a filename at a semicolon when choosing a handler, so malicious.asp;.jpg is passed to asp.dll and executed while an uploader that inspects only the trailing extension sees a JPEG. Found by fuzzing with ASP itself; a 2008 survey bypassed 70 percent of supposedly secure uploaders. The NTFS colon variant is noted as distinct.
